In episode 5 “The Bones That Weren’t,” a skateboarder sneaks into a construction site and stumbles upon a human skull protruding from the recently poured concrete. While at lunch, Dr. Temperance Brennan and Booth receive a call about the findings at the construction site. Brennan determined that the skull belongs to a male in his late 20s. In the lab, the team was about to determine that there was only the skull in the concrete. With the use of a lab technique, they were able to create an image of the victim’s skeleton. Angela, the specialist in forensic facial reconstruction, uses an additive stereolithograph machine, which printed a 3D replica of the skeleton based on the image. The skull’s dental tattoo will be the key in determining the …show more content…
This technique would provide a clearer picture of what is in the concrete. The use of radiography imaging such as MRI are used to in forensics in autopsies to evaluate areas without dissection. The imaging does not provide specific causes of death, however does allow one to see injuries in three dimensions, which could lead to the cause. (“Postmortem”). The imaging shows Brennan and the team a human skeleton, which means the tissue would have decomposed before the concrete was poured. Therefore, the goal is to find out what happened to the victim’s skeleton remains, which would lead to the cause of death of the victim. While examining the skull, Viziri finds an interesting detail on the victim’s dentition, a dental tattoo on the left central maxillary incisor of an upside-down man. This will be a major detail in the case to lead to the identification of the victim, because the dental tattoo is such a rare feature. …show more content…
The lab ran tests to see if the screwdriver was a match for the murder weapon, but there was no evidence of the fungus. Since the screwdriver did not give any sort of breakthrough, the team went to the park to find what has been in contact with the fungus. At the park, the team finds the fungus present in the items collected by the park janitor, Derrick, who is using a trash picker. The trash picker was determined to be the murder weapon. Brennan determined that on the plastic sheeting there would be a full handprint. With the technique of vacuum metal deposition, the gold will bind with lipids in the fingerprints and zinc will uncover the handprint. The handprint is very small, as a child or woman would have. Therefore, that narrowed it down to the ballet teacher and Beverly. They sat the two women in a room with glasses of water to get the handprint. Beverly’s reaction showed very
