A forensic psychologist have the values of wanting to work for people and for the benefits of people. They have to be quick with their thinking and they have to want to figure things out. Their work is based mainly on their knowledge mixed with scientific evidence, so they have to have a natural need for curiosity. Forensic psychology is a very demanding job, so family time would have to be a low priority. They spend a lot of time working and really submerging themselves in their work. They have a pretty high and fair payment amount, so they will be good on money.

They must be able to observe people’s facial expressions, body language and social interactions for clues to their attitudes and behavior. Observational techniques psychologists use include interviews, watching for certain behaviors and conducting psychological exams. People skills are at the center of all successful psychologist. They use a collection of thinking skills, including analytical skills for research, to problem-solving techniques during examination. Psychologists often take on complex cases that more often than not call for multiple approaches. The advantages of working in private practice include being able to perform a wide variety of activities, traveling, and better pay compared to most forensic psychologists working in the public sector. Those who work in the public sector have a regular paycheck, few non-taxed benefits, and paid health insurance cost.

The work done by forensic psychologists has proven to be vital to our judicial system, which is why occupational growth in this specialty is anticipated. The U.S. Department’s Bureau of Labor and Statistics suspects that the job availability for psychologists to increase 12% between 2008 and 2018.
