Mid-Term Break is about the death of the writer's younger brother. This is foreshadowed by the kneeling bells, the crying father, and the angry mother. In the end, the body of his four-year-old brother is delivered to the home for the wake.
The foreshadowing in A Good Man is Hard to Find is the beginning discussion about not going to Florida when there is an escaped murderer in that area. There is also talk of the murderer in the diner when they stop to eat. At the end of this story, the family is killed by the murderer.
Foreshadowing adds interest to the story. When there is a running theme of foreshadowing it helps the flow of the story.
Theme for English B focuses on how both the author and the professor like the same kind of things and have the same kinds of human needs. They are both American. They can both learn from each other but one of them has a different type of freedom.

The author also gives a speech that he had given at commencement for the group of men. He is rewarded with a briefcase and a college scholarship but he is also told to 'know his place'.
The Lesson is the story of a young woman teacher that wants to show her students from Harlem that there are opportunities outside their world by taking them to a fancy toy store in Manhatten. They see things they know they could never possibly afford. She wants them to see inequality. Some people pay $35 for rent. others pay three times that much for a single toy. Miss Moore, the teacher is disappointed that the children don't understand what she is trying to show them.
The struggles are all racial inequality. One story is thoughtful writings about this issue. The next story is about using what you receive to become better. The third story is that there can be a more balanced society but it is going to take
