Forrest Gump Essay

Have you ever watched the “Forrest Gump” movie and went back to read the book and realized all the significant differences? if you have, you will understand the key differences and what this essay is about. There are much more detailed, word-packed parts in the novel, where as the movie doesn’t seem to show that much effort on the small things to interest the audience. I will be pointing out all the key differences and prove why I think the book is a better choice. I noticed many differences between the novel and film and I will be proving my point of why the book is better than the movie with many points I took along the reading and watching of Forrest Gump and have prepared a good amount of evidence …show more content…

In the book, the main theme is very “out there” and is supported a lot with dialogue provided by the author. The main theme is to live life to the fullest and never give up. The novel goes very in depth about Forrest love for Jenny, and he did whatever it took to get to her. In page 122 Forrest says “ My love for her is so strong I will do anything to be with her” (Groom, pg.122). This allows the reader to connect with the theme and it makes the theme more obvious so more people can understand what the author is trying to tell the readers, that is very important. There are a lot more examples of where the book expresses the theme better but there was one part of the plot which caught my attention. Everyone thought Forrest was stupid but he didn't give up and proved people wrong by getting chosen for a NASA space project because he is a physics savant.

In the film this part of the plot didn't even exist, Forrest ended up going to war. This situation of Forrest going on a mission proved he never gave up and that he takes risks and lives life to the fullest. This is very crucial because it shows people that anything is possible and proves that the book explains and expresses the main theme better than the movie. All in all, the book expressed the theme better and helps people connect and understand it more, therefore it's better than the
