The Fourth of July: a federal holiday in the United States commemorating the Declaration of Independence. Thomas Jefferson had the first ever 4th of July celebration at The White House in 1801- the original celebrations were with prayers, speeches, dinner, music, parades, and fireworks. “The Executive Mansion is an enduring symbol of the American dream and continues to play an important role in Independence Day celebrations”(Fourth of July at The Whitehouse). Over time, people decided to continue the celebration in more ways than ever.
On the Fourth of every year, for the nation's birthday, my family and I go to my neighbor's for a pool party, fireworks, and backyard cookouts. We hang out with friends and other families. However, we have changed the way we celebrate over the years. On this day the Declaration of Independence was adopted by the Continental Congress, it was an official act taken by all 13 American colonies in declaring independence from British rule. “The Liberty Bell in Philadelphia is tapped 13 times every July 4th in honor of the original 13 colonies”(Zamagni-Twomey).
