To the Editor, I understand that America has jumped on the Frozen bandwagon since the Disney film came out last November. While the rest of the world has hailed the movie as “Disney’s best movie since The Lion King”, I, for one, ardently protest the film’s widespread appeal and fame. It was a huge surprise to me that so many people adored this movie. I thought the plot was rushed, the characters were underdeveloped, and the story wasn’t fulfilling and satisfying. However, everyone is entitled to their own opinion about entertainment, so if you enjoyed Frozen because of the beautiful animation, the catchy musical numbers, or because Olaf the snowman was hilarious, then all the more power to you. What’s wrong is that countless critics, like Gina Luttrel from Arts.Mic and Thoughts on Liberty, are preaching Frozen as “The Most Progressive Disney Movie Ever” (Luttrel). So, if you, like Luttrel, believe that Frozen was the feminist fairy tale you’ve been waiting for from Disney, then we have a serious problem. And the problem is that claiming a film as progressive or feminist when it inherently isn’t has some very troublesome implications for viewers. …show more content…

Her most bizarre claims—like that the sauna merchant is an openly gay character, are laughable, and I wondered if this was a spoof article when I first read it. To my dismay, she was inherently serious, which makes her point all the more depressing. I’m going to debunk the most atrociously insane arguments that Luttrel made, which sounded as though what Frozen has done for female characters is what Philadelphia did for AIDS
