In “The Short Happy Life of Francis Macomber,” Ernest Hemingway’s title character is both Hemingway hero and not. The reason behind this is because shows traits that describe Hemingway hero, such as bravery and the facing of death, and traits that are against the concept, such as cowardice and weakness. In the short story, the title character, Francis Macomber, shows some traits of a Hemingway hero, one of which is bravery as shown in this quote “you’ve gotten awfully brave, awfully suddenly.” This quote comes up in the part of the story where Macomber, Wilson, and Margot are hunting buffalo.
