Ever wanted to learn about the bad guy in history? This person made a major effect in history. He was the Mexican leader, he lead 4000 Mexican troops to invade the Alamo, one of the most protected pieces by the Texans. This person in history is, Antonio Lopez de Santa Anna or Santa Anna for short. Santa Anna was born in Jalapa, Vera Cruz, on february 21, 1794, he was the son of Antonio Lopez de Santa Anna and Manuela Perez de Lebron.
Before the fight even began, it was clear that the Spaniards had a big advantage and would come out on top. It states in the text, “Immediate reasons for Pizarro’s success included military technology based on guns, steel weapons, and horses; infectious diseases endemic in Eurasia; European maritime technology; the centralized political organization of European states; and writing” (Diamond 78). While striking the Indian villages, Governor Pizarro’s troops were easily able to kill off many people because of their new technology and weapons that they created for themselves. Instead of having stone, bronze, or wooden clubs, maces, and hand axes that would easily crack under pressure, the Spaniards created steel swords, lances, and daggers that were able to swiftly
Most books have either portrayed Hernán Cortés as either a brave conquistador hero who helped transform Mexico for Spanish use, or as a cruel racist who helped instill a genocide upon millions of Mexican natives. The truth, however, can be a lot less black or white. In the book Victors and Vanquished: Spanish and Nahua Views of the Conquest of Mexico, we see that the moral nature of Cortés is more grey than most think. Cortés, in his conquest of Mexico, has performed good and bad deeds towards his own men and towards the Nahua people. To begin with the analysis of Cortés’s actions, we can look at the various good deeds he exhibited during his time in Mexico.
Among the explorers of North America that sought out and plundered the natives’ riches, Hernando De Soto is noted for combing over the southeast. During this journey De Soto is noted for meeting and sending Chief Tuscaloosa to his untimely death. Not only did Hernando De Soto and his crew kill Chief Tuscaloosa but they were known for conquering other natives in lust over their riches, such as gold and silver, not to mention their territory. The natives stood no chance against Hernando De Soto and his men, not only were the natives at a disadvantage technologically but the had been already injured socially and economically.
• Third reason was his translators Marina and Geronimo de Aguilar. Marina was a Mexican tribal girl who was given to Cortes as a gift, Geronimo de Aguilar was intelligent and well educated and picked up on much of the local dialects. First Marina translated the local languages to Geronimo, later he translated them into Spanish for Cortes. Marina proved herself to be invaluable in helping Cortes recover from confrontations with the Aztecs and other opposing tribes. She also was important in helping Cortes gain Indian allies as she could explain what Cortes could do for them and helping him in conquering the Aztecs • Fourth reason was Montezuma the local leader believed that Cortes was a god of thunder and lightning "Quetzakoatl" Which made Cortes to gain power over the local tribes.
Lessons learned Real life bandits have always been of great interest for writers. Those symbolic heroes, who by doing wrong do right, have always represented a great opportunity to express ideologies, viewpoints and opinions about an economic, political, or even judicial system. La Pintada, Joaquin Murieta, and Pancho Villa are great examples of this. Most antiheroes- and heroes are male, but there were some women reclaiming a place in history as well.
In his campaign against the Aztec Empire, Cortez relied upon the other local indigenous tribes for assistance. Why did they ally themselves to Cortez and how did they help him secure ultimate victory? In Cortez’s venture to seize Mexico from the Aztec powers he was given he allied with other indigenous tribes, such as the Tlaxcalan's. It can be seen that perhaps the ally was more of mutual want for the destruction of the Aztecs as a mutual enemy rather then the want to benefit one another but the result shows us that this ally between the indigenous and the Spanish Hernan Cortez resulted in both the siege of Mexico and downfall of the Aztecs which may not have happened without this alignment.

Born on June 5, 1878 and first known as Doroteo Arango, life wasn’t easy. As a young boy, he experienced how bad life as a peasant is. The rich were treating them like slaves. When his father died he became head of the household.
