The topic of Dr Frankenstein playing God can be related to the current day issue of abortion laws. Creating life should just be the act of God and taking it away is in the same context. Twenty years before Shelly published "Frankenstein" Luigi Galvani discovered that electricity could make a dead person's muscles twitch and simulate some type of life. At first, it just wanted to smile, however, under the circumstances of its youth made it into the cold hearted killer it soon became. At first, the creature tried to show compassion and showed no evil. "Cursed, cursed creator! Why did I live? Why, in that instant, did I not extinguish the spark of existence which you had so wantonly bestowed? I know not; despair had not yet taken possession of me; my feelings were those of rage and revenge. I could with pleasure have destroyed the cottage and its inhabitants and have glutted myself with their shrieks and misery."(186). This quote shows that the monster just wanted to be loved and was actually loveable. He was just ugly. It seems that Shelly says playing God can only come from the want to play God, but whether the creature is good or bad depends on what ones actions are towards it. Dr Frankenstein was too broken down to accept the title of "creator" because his creation gave him chills even before the killing of his loved ones.
