"Frankenstein's Isolation: The Path to Madness" In Frankenstein by Mary Shelly. The monster created by Frankenstein longs for companionship however because of his appearance people fear him and treat him coldly. This makes the monster start to hate humanity but most of all hate his creator who brought him into the world only for him to be shunned. The monster was created against its will, born with no knowledge of the world. Once he explored and gained knowledge and saw the love and compassion humans have towards each other he wanted it even more but after he was attacked by people over and over again he lost that hope and sided against them. He spent his time watching a family through their window learning all about them. “they were a mixture of pain and pleasure, such as I had never before experienced, either from hunger or cold, warmth or food; and I withdrew from the window, unable to bear these emotions.” The monsters longing for companionship continued to grow as he watched the family. He became fascinated with the love they showed for each other. The monster became attached to the family he wanted to reveal himself to them but stopped fearing that they would too hate him for his appearance even though he was good natured. After much time of the two chasing each other, Victor fell ill and died in bed. Once the monster heard of his death he went to his creature “That is also my victim!” he exclaimed. “In his murder, my crimes are consummated…Oh, Frankenstein! Generous and self-devoted being! What does it avail that I now ask thee to pardon me.” The monster feels remorse for his actions and still asks for forgiveness after Victor's Death because without Victor and without a mate he feels he has no purpose in life even if he hated not having a mate by at least having his creator he was able to live for the chase.
