To others Frankenstein is perceived as an evil monster, but that is not the case. Reading an excerpt through Frankenstein's point of view allows the reader an insight on what he feels and thinks. Because the excerpt was written in the first person's point of view the reader experiences first hand what frankenstein feels and thinks. It is important that the author used the first person's point of view when writing this excerpt because it allowed the reader to create an understanding of of him as a character. The reader realizes that although he was abandoned by his creator and is very antisocial, he still managed to have a distinct set of morals and a very well rounded character. He demonstrates some of his morals when he realizes that the family he has been observing was living in poverty. He decides to stop stealing from their garden and satisfy his hunger on nuts and berries from a neighboring wood, rather than making their poverty worse. It takes him a while to comprehend the feelings but once he gets it he begins participating in the feelings with them. “When they were unhappy, I felt depressed; when they rejoiced, I sympathized in their joys.” This not only shows him learning new things but it also demonstrates how close he felt he was to the family.
