Frankenstein Essay Frankenstein is not the name of the creature. Frankenstein is the last name of the creature’s creator, Victor Frankenstein. Mary Shelley wrote an amazing novel called Frankenstein. Though it makes you wonder, what is the creature’s name? Sadly, the creature doesn’t have a name, this affects him and influences the reader’s perception of him negatively. So, why didn’t the creature ever receive a name? After stitching the wretched creature together and giving it life early in the novel, Victor says, “Devil, aren't you afraid of me? Names are kind of what separates us from the wilderness, it helps us identify people as people. When the creature talks to Victor about the cruelty of society, he says, “They only see me as a monster” (Shelly 71). So without a name, you tend to feel like a fictional person or a monster. So, with the creature already being punished with the thought of never being human, he’s also punished with the dehumanization of not having a name. Readers are also affected by the fact that the creature doesn’t have a name. Though William Frankenstein, Victor Frankenstein's Brother, and a side character, is captured by the creature while walking through the woods, he says, “Monster! You want to eat me and tear me to pieces” (Shelly 78). This can capture the reader's point of view. The creature does not have a name, making the readers see him as a monster.
