Chris Dailey English 11 CP1 Mr. Gentile 5/10/24 The Real Monster Over the course of the book, Frankenstein by Mary Shelley, the reader is introduced to what and how people need certain aspects in their lives to be able to develop and grow within society. Having relationships with people, whether it’s as simple as having a friend or more complicated, and having a relationship with someone you love can make significant impacts on our lives. Throughout the novel, Victor Frankenstein can be seen as the true villain/monster over the actions he takes. Victor created the unnamed monster “Frankenstein” as a test subject and over the course of his short life he was commended for being alone and isolated from a relationship with anyone due to his creator. Frankenstein dealt with this lifestyle ever since he was created, “The path of my departure was free; and there was none to lament my annihilation. My person was hideous and my stature gigantic. What does this mean? Who am I? What was it like for me? What is my destination? These questions continually recurred, but I was unable to solve them.” (Shelley 115) Having no connections with others makes it nearly impossible to improve ourselves as we are left alone with our own thoughts and questions. Due to a lack of connections, the questions Frankenstein asked himself remained unanswered and finding the answer only caused more harm in his life since he didn’t have any knowledge of the difference between right and wrong. Furthermore, Victor Frankenstein created the monster “Frankenstein” in the novel. Is Frankenstein the monster? Or is his creator Victor Frankenstein the real monster?
