Franklin D Roosevelt was, by far, the most popular president of his time. He was the people’s people. FDR was the only president in history to be elected for four terms, which says a lot about his likeability. In his first few weeks as president, he accomplished more than almost any president before him. During his time as president, he proved to be an effective leader, an outstanding commander-in-chief and helped America get through its darkest time. President Roosevelt was elected during a time when the country needed a great leader, and he delivered. The economy crashed severely with little to no hope for speedy recovery. FDR created the only program that got the US out of the worst financial situation in history: The New Deal. The New Deal was different programs to stabilize the economy and create jobs for Americans. His actions decreased the negatives the war would have on the country while building citizen morale for the war. He waited until he had the country’s full support before entering the war which was not something that was heard of from previous leaders of that time. Because of his outstanding leadership and skillful tactics, the US was the only nation to make it through WW2 and come out better than we entered.
