Franklin D. Roosevelt was the 32nd president of the United States. Franklin was born on January 30, 1882, at the family home “Springwood”, in Hyde Park, New York. James Roosevelt his father (1828 – 1900), and Sara Delano, his mother (1854 – 1941) had only one child but James had another child with his first wife. James Roosevelt Roosevelt, was Franklin’s half-brother. Franklin D. Roosevelt showed great determination in his younger years, while trying to end the Great Depression, and getting closer to his dealth. In FDR’s adolescent years he was like most children. His father’s family was based in New York and they were involved in commerce, banking, insurance, shipbuilding and seafaring. Although he was a lawyer by training, James interests were in business where he was respected figure in the field of finance, transportation (railroads), and in philanthropy.
