Franklin D. Roosevelt was the 32nd president of the United States. Franklin was born on January 30, 1882, at the family home “Springwood”, in Hyde Park, New York. James Roosevelt his father (1828 – 1900), and Sara Delano, his mother (1854 – 1941) had only one child but James had another child with his first wife. James Roosevelt Roosevelt, was Franklin’s half-brother. Franklin D. Roosevelt showed great determination in his younger years, while trying to end the Great Depression, and getting closer to his dealth. In FDR’s adolescent years he was like most children. His father’s family was based in New York and they were involved in commerce, banking, insurance, shipbuilding and seafaring. Before entering Gorton, Franklin had a series of tutors and governess. At Gorton, Franklin played football and he was the manager for the baseball team and while at Harvard he was part of the crew.
