This story tells the life story of Frederick Douglass. Douglass was born into and brought up in slavery. He knew the horror of slavery first hand and experienced the bondage and abuse. He later gained freedom from slavery and became a lecturer, editor, and one of the most important men behind the American abolitionist movement. Douglass wrote about three different autobiographies about himself. In one of his autobiographies he wrote about his life as a slaves and great detailed. Douglass tells our about his life by describing his life on a Maryland plantation. He talks about how excited he was to teach himself how to read and write.
