Universities Must Provide Lunch Meals for All Students

Free school lunch is critical to the health and well-being of students, particularly for low-income students, and ensures that students get the nutrition they need throughout the day for learning. Students benefit in plenty of ways when universities provide them with free lunches. Thus, offering free, nutritious lunches to students would help cut down on both their expenses and their consumption of food that is not nutritious. First of all, providing meals for students contributes to reducing expenses spent on lunch meals. There is research that shows ” receiving free or reduced-price school lunches reduces food insecurity, obesity rates, and poor health ”(1). To illustrate, when universities offer free and healthy lunch meals for students they can reduce the consumption of unhealthy food because students should not go to buy lunch meals from fast food restaurants. For example, some restaurants that neighbor universities lost a lot of their profits when universities decided to provide free lunch meals to their students. In addition, providing free and healthy lunch meals will contribute to improving the health of university students and keep them away from diseases. According to a study, as a result of universities and schools providing free healthy meals, the students' consumption rate of fruits, vegetables, and milk increased by 50 % (2). Also, this can help to improve students in their academic levels. To illustrate, eating healthy meals can improve the mood of students and this will contribute to improving their academic level and push them to do their best in their life
