Jacob Stolzenburg 3/5/18 Romeo and Juliet Romeo and Juliet, by William Shakespeare. The theme of this play is love. The character I choose is Friar Lawrence. The main cause of Romeo and Juliet death is from Friar interfering. Do to him trying to cause happiness he caused grief.
Romeo showed an act of free will by choosing to fight Tybalt. Romeo walked into a fight ending up killing Tybalt. He was mad at Juliet making him soft and gentle. Romeo says, “O sweet Juliet you've made me effeminate and in my temper softened valour's steel. ”(III, iii. 428).
Are people in control of their destiny? Having no power over one’s destiny is an important theme in William Shakespeare’s, Romeo and Juliet. We are in told in the prologue that fate is going to drive the story. Romeo and Juliet are not in control of their lives. The unexpierienced, young couple tries to develop their secret relationship too fast, and the play ends after the lover’s traumatic suicides. In the play, the couple mentions how their relationship is “star-crossed” in that they are not fated to be together. However, these teenagers have been in many serious circumstances giving rise to their deaths and have overlooked the fact that their choices are what mainly determined their futures.
Romeo is a complex character for many reasons, the last reason being that he helps to create and advance the theme of the story. The theme of the play, “Romeo and Juliet” is that love conquers all. Romeo helps prove the theme by doing whatever it takes to be with his one true love, Juliet. When Romeo learns about Juliet’s rival family, this doesn't stop him from seeking her out. He is led by his love for her and believes this will protect him from the wrath of their feuding families.
Star Crossed Lovers In Romeo and Juliet their are not many events that are coincidental. Romeo and Juliet are the result of pre-determined destiny. Some people compare pre-determined to fate, this means people can not change things. The two teens could not control which families they were born into. While Romeo did make this decision on his own free will, he really just brought about the inevitable end by destiny. The characters may have the illusion that they are making decisions, and while choices are made by the characters, but no matter what decision they end up making, fates result will always prevail. In conclusion, Romeo and Juliet are definitely star crossed lovers, because of the strange events that simply cannot be described as coincidences, choices that seem to be chosen by a higher power, and finally even when they try to avoid surrendering to fate, they always end up achieving exactly that which fate wanted.
