Views of freedom after the Civil War

The Civil War made major changes to the American culture, however which one of those changes are the most important? The Civil War was one of America’s most bloodiest battle which ranged in 1861 through 1865 that the South and North fought in, to determine if slavery was necessary or not. At that time Abraham Lincoln was president and he opposed slavery due to restricting rights, therefore he announced the war. The starting of this war was not only because Lincoln announced, but it was because people started speaking out that slavery was not justified. The Civil War changed Americans views about freedom by realising that they needed more freedom and no more slaves.

Even before the Civil War, people compared the liberty of before the American Revolution to when they discriminated the colored and women. 87 years ago, our heroes brought us our nation created in the idea that everyone is equal. (Lincoln in The Gettysburg Address). Lincoln is addressing 87 years ago, people rebelled and separated from Britain in the American Revolutionary War for the purpose for everyone to be equal, for no one to be classified as a high class or low class. When people recalled the Revolutionary War, they noticed that we made a mistake in restricting the rights- the liberty- the freedom of women and colored people, because the only reason why we divided ourselves from Britain was to be independent and to obtain freedom. “Now we are engaged in a great civil war, testing whether that nation, or any nation so conceived and so dedicated can long endure.” (Lincoln in the Gettysburg Address). Lincoln is saying we are in a war to prove if our nation will survive throughout. Lincoln acknowledged that four scores and seven years ago, we cut ties with Britain for independence. But they made Britain’s same error to segregate people, even though everyone is equal.
