The readings from today has a lot of themes regarding human and natural rights. “The Freedom Charter” and “Beijing Declaration of Women’s Rights” both explain the importance of emphasizing the empowerment of human rights. The author of “Beijing Declaration of Women’s Rights” states “We are determined to take all necessary measures to eliminate all forms of discrimination against women and the girl child and remove all obstacles to gender equality and the advancement and empowerment of women” (590). This shows the determination of women to fight for their rights and overcoming any obstacles that they encounter. In the Freedom Charter, the South African citizens were determined to be liberated and obtain their freedom that they are rightful entitled to. “These freedoms we will fight for, side by side, throughout our lives, until we have won our liberty” (586). Later, she was found in contempt of court and was arrested. This shows how “The Universal Declaration of Human Rights” are not being enforced and are being ignored in today’s world. Article 23 states, “Everyone has the right to work, to free choice of employment, to just and favorable conditions of work, and to protection against unemployment” (579). This relates to today’s society because of the many sweat shops around the world. Citizens from third world countries fall victims to unsafe and unfavorable working conditions because their bosses take advantage of them. They are aware that those people truly need jobs and they do everything they can to over work them. Also they over compensate the workers far less than what the product is actually sold for in America. Basically they are working for free and some of the workers lack the education realize that their human rights are being violated and
