Freedom I believe in change,but not all change. I believe in freedom. In the past there have been many protests. Protests are designed to change the way something is, or how a system works to make it more productive for the people who are at the receiving end of this system. Sometimes government situations make the country a very bad place. This would be an example of change I am not for. But when the people unite to try to change something, to make something better that's when I am for it. The First Amendment gives us the right to do it but it was walked all over in the 60`s with the Vietnam protest specifically Kent State and the segregation of blacks throughout the south. They used tactics like freedom rides which Blacks sat in state segregated buses, under the federal law that segregation is illegal.”At rest stops they would eat and drink at white facilities”- “(Thomas Gale)”. This made whites have to deal with blacks using their rights, to respond the racist whites attacked the peaceful protestors. That backfired because that made those people into heroes telling more people nationwide about what was going on. This added more to the liberation cause of the African Americans. They also protested with sit ins. During sit ins Blacks would sit at segregated dining facilities and wait to be served. It started with four college boys who decided to do this. After a few hours there they were beaten by angry racist white people. Thinking they had scared them away the next day more African Americans came to the lunch counter and soon it spread all along the south forcing restaurants to desegregated or go bankrupt. “After the four original starters of the sit ins were arrested more than 350 blacks came back and allowed themselves to be arrested filling up the jails so more could protest.”-”(Thomas Gale)” These forms of protest eventually gave the African Americans freedom and equality. “The first amendment guarantees the right of religious freedom and the right to assemble- “(Cornell)”. This protects you so you can practice what religion you choose and the right to assemble so you can gather in a group to talk about what you want. “The first amendment guarantees freedom of expression by prohibiting Congress from restricting the press or an individual to speak freely”-”(Cornell)”. This allows the press to print the truth, and for us,the people to be able to speak freely about what we choose even if it is against the government and or their decisions. “The first amendment also forbids Congress from promoting one religion over another and cannot also restrict individual practices”-”(Cornell)”. This helps by ensuring you have the rights of every other citizen no matter what your faith. “The first amendment also protects your right to petition the government peacefully.-”(Cornell)”. This gives your the right to go and protest and express your opinion. “Congress shall make no law restricting an establishment of religion,or prohibiting free exercise of freedom of the press/speech, or the right to assemble”-”(Cornell)”. These laws under the first amendment give you your constitutional right to help better your country and make a difference. This will have a positive effect on the world
