During the French revolution terror spread throughout the land. Before the revolution the country was falling into chaos. The king and his wife spent so much money on themselves, and on supporting the american revolution that they put the country in an economic crisis. Until the people rose up to make a change and started the revolution. Using terror as an instrument of the french revolution was common practice and it had many advantages and disadvantages, such as the many arrests made more jobs and more money for citizens, it kept the revolution on track, the many deaths of nobles, and the overall deaths of citizens.

The first advantage was the arrests that made jobs and money more available. During the revolution, many indictments were made. In Document 3 it said that for the crime of hostile acts against the state 10,456 citizens were indicted. This means that there were 10,456 more jobs open to the people. “The majority of citizens agreed in unanimously {sic} saying that the tribunals act well, that they acquit the innocent and punish the guilty” (Document 9). The most of the people didn’t oppose the revolution, but even the ones that did or plainly didn't care still fought for it. “They are compelled into the field by the terror of the guillotine” (Document 8). On fear of death the people fought, and because of that they had the numbers to spread the revolution through France. The rebellious regions in france where put back in line because of the fear. “You were being betrayed by everyone... Yet the greatest of our misfortunes was a certain fear of the concentration of authority necessary to save the state” (Document 11). The fear in the regions put the rebellions to rest. It greatly helped the revolution
