The French Revolution is known as the central political event of modern European history, so the events serve as great importance. By 1789 in the summertime, the political chaos exploded in France and had ran to a revolution that brought about the start of a fresh order of politics in France. “The French Revolution brought to the foreground the principles of civic equality and popular sovereignty that challenged the major political and social institutions in Europe and that in evolving forms have continued to shape and reshape Western political and social life to the present day.” (Page 550).

This occurred when the Estates General became the National Assembly. Then, divided in to three estates. “The first estate was the clergy, the Second Estate the nobility, and the Third Estate was, theoretically, all other adult men in the kingdom, although its representatives were drawn primarily from wealthy members of the commercial and professional middle classes” (Page 553).
Next, the event that came about was the Reconstruction of France. During this, the National Constituent Assembly was, in all methods, determined to defend property. The assembly set about reorganizing France while they were in Paris. “The assembly sought to limit the impact on the national life of those French people who had no property or only small amounts of it” (Page 560). Nineteenth-century liberals would follow a general course that was charted across Europe.
Then, the end of a monarchy marked the Second Revolution. The Jacobins were from the Third Estate and were the “most advanced political group in the National Constituent Assembly and had pressed for a republic rather than a constitutional monarchy” (Page 567).
