French Revolution VS American Revolution This paper will talk about why the French Revolution is more significant in history than the American Revolution. During the Revolution the Republic was trying to draw up ways to make France into one nation instead of a bunch of different areas. They also came up with the language policy, and redrew departments so each area would have an equal number of representatives. Many historians think the French Revolution was the birth of the modern nation. Also years before the US the French abolished slavery, allowed blacks the right to vote and to run as representatives. They also abolished laws against Jews and women owning property and having inheritances, legalized same sex couples, and were years before the US in having universal male suffrage. Lastly many of the European radical movements started because of the Revolution. A lot of the early radicals were French and reacted to the French Revolution. This lead to new a government because Radicals made a new election for a new legislative body called the National Convention. This made it so the right to vote was extended to all male citizens not just landowners. The Convention later met in September of 1792 to abolish the monarchy and declare France a Republic. Deputies then drew up a new constitution for France. The Jacobins who controlled the Convention set out to erase all of the old order. They also seized lands of nobles and abolished titles of nobility. In September of 1792 the king was put on trial for being a traitor to France and later killed in Paris in January of 1793.
