I am writing this letter to express my interest in your illustrious organization, Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated. I am currently a senior majoring in Criminal Justice, minoring in African American Studies with aspirations of becoming a Social Justice Attorney. Born in the inner city of New York and being raised in the suburbs of Atlanta, I am not your typical Southern Belle or City girl. I like to think of myself as being a fine mix of the two. At a young age my mother groomed me into what she believed a well-rounded lady should be.
As I end my sophomore year at Old Dominion University I think about all that I have accomplished in the past two years. I think about traveling to Peru and volunteering at an Hogar and Hospital as a Freshmen, Becoming Co-President of the Women’s ministry for ODU’s Catholic Campus Ministry, and to working hard and receiving good grades in all my classes. Not only do I think about all the work that I have done so far but I also think about my family and all the sacrifices they have made for me. I think about my parents waking up early every day to go to work just so we could have food on the table and a roof over our heads.
I am the sibling of a student currently attending Melrose High School. I am contacting you to request that the district implement healthier start times for middle and high school students attending Melrose Public Schools. Currently, Melrose Veterans Memorial Middle School and Melrose High School have a start time of 7:45 a.m. Studies show there should be a delay in morning classes until 8:30 a.m. or later. Doing this will maximize the intellectual potential of the students in our district. Are you and the School Board aware that Melrose High School is apart of the 40% of U.S. schools that start before 8 a.m.?
If I improve as I have been doing I will look somewhat like a man by the time I come home again. I have been interrupted twice since I commenced this letter, once to go on battalion drill and the second time to go on dress parade. I guess I will get to close it now. We have not been payed yet except 13 dollars that we were payed while at Greensburg. We will hardly be payed of monthly wages for a month yet.
The book wisdom sits in places is a very inspirational book about how names, places, and culture are all intertwined to create a story about the past. Keith H. Basso entails us about a strong culture that hits home about the strong human connection associated with names and place. Four different groups of Apache are introduced in Wisdom sits in places, and each one has a unique take on their culture associated with place. The Apaches own history is intertwined with that of the land, and by allowing us to read about the four different Apache groups. Basso expands the conciseness of his readers by showing the wisdom, manners, and morals of the rich culture of the Apache.
But most importantly I want to thank my family, especially my mom and dad, for the unconditional love and support they have given me throughout the years. From

Girls who would once give up on their homework started to ask for help instead of accepting defeat. They know I will always be there for them for more than just
This letter will include my hopes and dreams for the upcoming school year. I will then add in my letter some of the fun activities I plan on doing with them throughout the year. Also in my letter, the students will learn some of my hobbies and what I like to do when school is on break. At the end of my letter there will be a few questions for my students to answer. They will be asked to tell me some fun and interesting things about themselves.
As the semester goes, I am sure I will learn a lot and be ready to write the grant proposal assignment.
