It can be argued that Evelyn Couch’s character goes through a significant development transformation throughout the course of the film, moving from a state of stagnation to achieving a sense of generativity in later life. Throughout the course of the movie “Fried Green Tomatoes,” Evelyn Couch, a middle-aged lady with what seems to be an unsatisfied existence, has a substantial developmental metamorphosis. We can understand her actions, decisions, and interactions with other characters as she manages the crises shown in the movie by viewing her character through the prism of Erik Erikson’s psychosocial development theory.
