When Elie Wiesel’s life takes a turn for the worst in his novel, Night, he does not lose hope; he fights for his life against the Nazi’s and their dehumanation.

Throughout the autobiography, Elie displays prominent psychological patterns to explain how Jews allowed human atrocities to occur, using characters such as Akiba Drummer to make the intent of Jewish genocide clear. In Night, Wiesel explains how learned helplessness and Maslow’s Hierarchy of Needs can explain human atrocities, using Akiba Drummer’s death and Elie’s downfall as examples.

He gave a wonderful speech called “ The perils of indifference”. He delivered this speech at the white house in washington D.C hoping to encourage the audience to learn from the past. Elie wiesel builds an argument to persuade the people of the new generation that we can all learn and grow to be better in the new millennium.
The world has had many threats to it and its inhabitants at all times. Everyone in our society has to be able to fight back against these risks somehow, rather than falling prey to them. Elie Wiesel wrote a memoir, titled Night, about the Holocaust and his experience as a survivor; within his writing, Elie specifically speaks of rebellion. Elie develops the theme of rebellion through the use of the metaphor of soup, eyes, and the descriptions of fire in order to convey the idea that one needs to confront threats internally against one’s self before being able to vocally combat the morals of society; and if present, weaknesses will interfere.

The human psyche, an incredibly complicated part of us, which science still has yet to explain. We only have some insight to what our conscious and unconscious minds hold for us, though theses insights are merely theories. Friedrich Nietzsche; a German philosopher, composer, poet, philologist and cultural critic, came up with an idea called the will to power. Nietzsche argues that we, as humans, exercise power over others either to benefit them or to do harm. In addition, he also contrasts between “master morality” and “slave morality”, which by creating values, imposing them on people, and judging the world based on these values, is a noteworthy way to express the will of power.
His memoir, Night, serves as a significant reminder of the atrocities committed during the Holocaust and the capacity for malevolence within humanity. Wiesel challenges the world to face the possibility of evil within oneself and in society and to fight against injustice by addressing the tragedies of the past to establish a world free from injustice and hatred, Wiesel stresses the value of compassion, empathy, and action through his writing. “The Holocaust is the solution to the Jews final question.” This famously known quote, said by Adolf Hitler, explains the ugly truth behind his so called “well-being”. Dating all the way back to the 1930s, Hitler was first brought to power becoming a dictator and leader of the Nazi party; however, many citizens under his rule did not know that they just set their country up for a major downfall. From 1933 to 1945 society in Germany was “doomed” as many had put it, and full of indifference. Author of Night, witness of the Holocaust, and a human just like anyone else, Elie Wiesel, shared his horrific journey about how he survived through the time of the genocide of Jews.
Elie Wiesel strongly answered “What is Evil?” in detail within his experienced text as he addresses about the memories of the death of his family. My whole life I have heard it said that evil is Man itself: the cruelest animal.
