Friendship In The Film Holes

A friendship is a tie between people that will be tested through difficulties, but will remain strong until the end of the line. In the film Holes, the director (Andrew Davis) provides insight on the many elements involved in a genuine, long-lasting friendship. Throughout the film, Stanley and Zero demonstrate that those in a true friendship can depend on one another to provide aid during times of distress. Throughout Holes, Stanley and Zero show, through various actions, the dedication and support two friends provide for each other, even through dire circumstances. As an example, in one scene, Zero helped protect Stanley in a fight. In the scene, Stanley was in a fight with another character and was at a disadvantage. Zero noticed this, and, without being asked for help, threw himself into the fray, risking injury to himself, to try to help Stanley avoid serious injury. This scene shows that, because Zero had a choice to help, friends will always choose to help each other, regardless of circumstance. Later in the film, Stanley and Zero escape Camp Greenlake (Zero first, then, after worrying about Zero’s safety, Stanley follows). The loyalty that friends provide for each other is irreplaceable, and life would be difficult without the loyalty of friends.
