Imagine that you are a troubled princess, lying on your back in the swamp, when you meet a talking frog who claims to be a prince from a faraway kingdom. He says that he has been cursed, and the only way to break the spell was if somebody kisses him. You pity the poor prince, so you lean in, kiss the frog, and in seconds you become a frog yourself! The “prince,” a dirty villager boy, runs away cackling like a witch and leaves you stranded in the swamp. In Vivian Vande Velde’s novel, Frogged, a villager boy tricks Princess Imogene into becoming a frog, while trying to find help she was kidnapped by a runaway teenager and taken to a traveling theater.
Even though she has memories of the land, she feels unsure about being the princess of Wonderland such as when she states “am I well? I shouldn’t say so.” (Beddor 218). No matter how much she tries, she can not get used to being as praised as she does. Even so, she seems like she is more confident than she used to be, such as when she states “i’ll kill you again if I have to.”
Approaching the end of the book, chapter thirty-three is about Bailey leaving the house. Angelou notices that she and Bailey have both grown up since she left the house, but Bailey seems to have grown more than her. I could not relate to Angelou’s experience with watching her brother leave the house because my family life has been mostly uneventful. I did find it odd that Bailey thought it was his time to leave the house at sixteen years old. I am seventeen years old now and I would not dream of leaving the house to go out on my own in the world.
Once again, Maya Angelou manages to touch our hearts again with her poetic skills in Chapter 19 titled The Champion of the World in her autobiography I Know Why the Caged Bird Sings. She recalls a time in her life where the African American community gathered at her grandmother's and uncle's store to hear a boxing match via radio. The boxing match was between the former champion Joe Louis and a white boxer. Maya Angelou takes the meaning of a simple boxing match into something more complex; she demonstrates the suffrage of her people fighting against oppression during that time period.
In Maya Angelou’s “Graduation” she spoke about a fictional character named Marguerite Johnson and her eighth-grade graduation. Marguerite was always kinda of lost and selfish at times, and never look at how others seen things. But as the story goes on Marguerite starts to find herself and understand others. “Graduation” isn’t just about how Marguerite pass on to the next grade but how she has grown from a lost girl to a young intelligence woman. In this story the reader is going to follower her on this surprising journey.
Secondly, the poem to alludes to the commonly known fairy-tale, “The Princess and the Frog”. “The Princess and the Frog,” tells of a common girl who believes in being something bigger than herself, kissing the frog and finding true love. She only becomes a princess because she is willing to take the risk. However, in Machan’s version, the maid refuses to see herself in a bigger light, she refuses to believe she can be more than what her reality is. She states, “Me, a princess” (11).
Frida Kahlo born Magdalena Carmen Frieda Kahlo y Calderón was born in July 6, 1907 in Coyoacán, Mexico and died July 13, 1954. Kahlo who even after 70 have past since her death is still regarded as one of the most influential surrealist artists of all times. Kahlo who was one of four daughters was of hungarian descent from her paternal side and of mexican indian and spanish descent from her maternal side.

Epigenetics is the study of genetic changes that can occur without actual modification of the DNA sequence. These genetic changes, often brought on due to environmental changes, affect the phenotype of an organism. Bees are a colony animal. Within a colony, there are several sub-types of bees, including Queens and drones.

When I think of the plight of the black woman in American history, I am filled with the overwhelming sense of strength they have harnessed to overcome society’s prejudices. Since America’s beginnings there have been many African American women heroes; women who have stood up against and spoken out in the face of oppression. One such notable woman is the famous poet Maya Angelou. Who hasn’t heard the poem “Still I Rise” by Maya Angelou? I would argue it is the poem for which she is most well-known.
The short story, “The Lady or the Tiger?” by Frank R. Stockton illustrates a princess’s choice on whether she will send her lover to death or to the arms of another woman. The author excludes the ending and fate of the man, and instead, he leaves it to the reader to determine. After further analysis of the story, the reader can conclude that the princess chose the door with the tiger behind it. To begin, the princess must have chosen the door housing the tiger because she finds herself insanely jealous of the lady. The princess cannot stand the thought of the accused man choosing her as “this fair creature throw[s] glances of admiration upon the person of her lover.”
As a civilization in the jungle, the Maya are well known for their architecture, art, monumental sculptures, and calendars. The Mayan religious, ritualistic culture is developed and maintained in conjunction of the native people, as well as a communication and ties to the earth and sky. Understanding the Maya people and their religion is similar to understanding the geographical location of the people, and therefore their life source. There is great importance within the items that surrounded them geographically. Products or resources that sustained them as a community, or maintained their health and wellbeing, also created foundations for their religious belief system.

The poem “Still I rise” written by Maya Angelou tells of the struggles that minorities went through in the civil right movement. Maya Angelou has written this poem to help the audience understand a strong message within the poem. The civil rights movement was a nonviolent protest and a civil rejection against the rules to bring about a change. Maya angelou joined the Harlem Writers Guild and the co-organized Cabaret for Freedom, in hopes to become apart of the civil rights and black nationalist movement (Finn and English). In the poem “Still I rise” Maya Angelou uses metaphor, diction and repetition to create the tone of self-confidence.
Compare the ways in which the poets strikingly portray the women and their lives in these two poems; Aunt Jennifer’s Tigers and Still Life In the poems; Aunt Jennifer’s Tigers, by Adrienne Rich and Still Life, by Elizabeth Daryush; there are certain themes that are presented to the reader in a contrasting manner. The poet in the poem, Aunt Jennifer’s Tigers, uses the idea of a tiger to convey the fears and desires of Aunt Jennifer; however, the poet in the poem, Still Life, uses the idea of a breakfast table to convey the level of freedom that the young heiress has. Firstly, in the poem, Aunt Jennifer’s Tigers, the tiger is described as an active yet, beautiful creature.
