The Riddle of the Rosetta Stone In James Cross Giblin 's Riddle of the Rosetta Stone, he narrates the journey that many scholars take to translate Egyptian Hieroglyphs, and Greek carvings on a stone that led to understanding the life and culture of ancient Egyptians. As Giblin introduces readers to various scholars and their attempts to decipher the Rosetta Stone, he highlights their confusions, failures, and ultimate success. In 1799 Napoleon 's soldiers had found the Stone. The stone was filled with birds, animals, and geometric shapes.
I will be looking at Hector Belioz’s Symphonie Fantastique’s Fifth movement known as “Dream of a Witches’ Sabbath” (Taruskin, 2005: 327). In this movement, Berlioz sees a horrific crowd of spirits, sorcerers, and monsters of every description, united for his funeral (Kamien, 2014: 296). Unfamiliar sounds, groans, shrieks of laughter, distant cries, which other cries seemed to answer and then through all of this the melody of his beloved is heard — the distorted Idée fixe melody.
Upton Sinclair wrote the Jungle in 1906 during the time of progressivism to portray the horrors of the labor conditions and non existing sanitary conditions of the meat packing industry. Jurgis and his family, immigrants from Lithuania, came to America expecting a prosperous life. The family dreamed of coming to America for a better life full of success and opportunity but as they began working in the stockyards they were exposed to the terrible quality of life experienced by the factory workers. The Jungle tells the story of a family of immigrants coming to America to gain freedom and portrays the dehumanization of the stockyards through the political corruption, inhumane child labor practices, and the horrific working conditions. This is because it has a steady drum beat that plays throughout the song, expressing the aggression, and a powerful, moving voice, produced by the singer, that shows the anger and meaning behind the words. In The Geeks Shall Inherit the Earth, written by Alexandra Robbins, the reader is expected to connect the lack of individuality of many in high schoolers to the results of the social and biological experiments by Asch and Berns. Throughout the story, Robbins in constantly showing how high schoolers are conforming to peer expectations, despite their own personal interests. Because of a fear of rejection for uniqueness, many high schoolers share the opinions that “I have to be the same as everybody else, or no one will like me.” Personally, I have observed similar experiences. People fear being different.
Throughout the school year, Melinda’s tree goes through phases that reflect her emotions at the time. In the beginning of the story, Melinda thinks the project is too easy at first, thinking to herself, “How hard can it be to put a tree on a piece of paper?” (Anderson 32). However as Melinda tries to draw her tree, the more she begins to realize that she can’t. Similar to how she struggles with finding her voice, Melinda also has trouble drawing her tree.

Hieronymus Bosch was one of the most influential painters of the fifteenth century, whose works are famous even after five centuries after his death. The artist spent his career in the town of Hertogenbosch in the Netherlands. Bosch’s famous painting, Garden of Earthly Delights, is one of the most oracular pictures, which captivated and puzzled the audience since the inception of the picture. Garden of Earthly Delights is a large triptych and a conversational piece, never intended for religious setting. The picture belongs to the period of 1500-02 and conveys various meanings from the literal level to the allegorical level.

Magical thinking is the anthropological idea that if one performs the right actions, or hopes enough for something, their desired outcome will happen. The concept of “magical thinking” is one of the central ideas discussed in Joan Didion’s memoir The Year of Magical Thinking. This memoir explores the grief experienced by the author after losing her husband of nearly forty years. In no way does Didion try to approach death poetically, but rather honestly and practically. She bravely discusses the universal, yet rarely talked about, aspects of death, such as self pity, regret, isolation, secretly going crazy, and the phenomenon she describes as “magical thinking.”
This phase, “Garden of Eden,” means it is a forbidden fruit and he is relating to the invention of apple products. However, the poet uses apples and blackberries in his poem to metaphorically relate them to products that people have established. It shows that he is using his creative thinking to contribute to fruits into technology phases. The words that he often uses are mostly media related, for instance, Facebook and digital. Those words are connected because in the internet world, we frequently use Facebook, twitter, and instagram and he wants his audience to open up their mind on how this matter of networks can cause an illusion.

In the poem, “A Hymn to Childhood,” Li-Young Lee talks about having fragmented individuality from childhood due to war. He is lost in perception of a traumatic childhood caused by war and a normal naïve childhood. Lee depicts the two diverged childhoods from his memory through the use of antithesis to emphasize the world perceived by a self fragmented individual. Throughout the poem, he consistently presents two opposing ideas to show what it feels like to grow up with emotional trauma.
