Violence, war, and shootings. That is all that is on the news these days. Does America really need more wars and attacks or or should America hope for a peaceful future. GI Joes are becoming a bad influence on children because they promote violence against in children, show them that war is fun, and children need to be using more educational toys like Legos anyway.
GI Joe toys are promoting violence in Americas young children. During the Vietnam War Americans saw fit to take war toys off the shelf, in order to prevent the corruption of little kids minds. In December of 1887, Hasbro decides to bring them back on the shelf for consumers. Deb Ellis says, "The entertainment industry romanticizes war. War toys show violence without pain, and movies that show violence is a virtue, with handsome, heroic men perpetrating it." She also states that children have little power. Guenter Lewy in 1978 estimated 1,313,000 overall casualties in the Vietnam war alone. Do we really want this to happen again? No, of course not! Some people even believe that Hasbro should be sued for trying to convince children to partake in violence. The New York Times also said that " ...even though children are playing with toys of violent nature and having fun, they are also preparing for future wars." Some people might say that GI Joe toys can show kids what it is like to grow up and be leaders. This may be true but does America really need leaders that choose death and violence when asked to protect
