The Gastrointestinal tract also known as the GI tract. This tract starts at the mouth and ends at the anus. You can think of the GI tract as a long tube that runs through the body. This tract helps the body process down food once it enters the mouth and goes down the body as it is being broken down and let out through the anal cavity with the help of chemicals, hormones, and enzymes that help with the digestion. “The whole system is under hormonal control, with the presence of food in the mouth triggering off a cascade of hormonal actions; when there is food in the stomach, different hormones activate acid secretion, increased gut motility, enzyme release” (The GI system, 2017). Some of the processes that happen in the GI tract are motility, secretion, regulation, digestion, and circulation. The anatomy of the GI tract is made up the mouth, oral cavity, pharynx, esophagus, and duodenum. The mouth goes to the oral cavity (Kapoor, 2016). This are some of the things that help for food to be passed down through the body and then digested.
Gastro Intestinal cancer is a group of cancers that affect the digestive system. So this type of cancer can affect many different parts of the body. Such as the esophagus, gallbladder, liver, pancreas, stomach, small intestine, bowel, and anus. Anal cancer is the cancer that I have decided to talk about in this paper. Smoking is mostly known for cause lung cancer or even throat cancer but little do we know that it can also cause anal cancer. Smoking can cause more than just those types of cancers because the smoke travels throughout all of the body.
