In our daily lives, we all struggle with something. Whether that’s finding the motivation to get out of your comfy bed in the morning or to stay calm in roads full of busy traffic. This not only gives us the opportunity to build an image in our mind of how the disorder takes effect in our daily lives but how we can recognize the signs of the disorder in people around us. “Children with ADD, particularly when they are left undiagnosed and untreated, are subjected to a near constant flow of negative messaging, particularly in the classroom. The child with ADD can be a disruption—speaking out at the wrong time, fidgeting, interrupting the flow of the class, and generally contributing to a chaotic environment for other students.” (Saltz 49) Reading this section, we can easily see how a child with ADD, attention deficit disorder, struggles in a classroom. We may have someone in our class as a kid who did the same thing and the teacher would always get so frustrated. But now reading this, we see how that student may have never meant to disrupt the class and may have wanted to learn just as much as everyone else. People with undiagnosed disorders are often greatly misunderstood and are negatively impacted by this. The Power of Different by Gail Saltz, M.D. provides us with great information about different mental disorders that affect different people in today's world and how we can make their lives a little easier by being aware of what to look for and how to help. There are so many different types of mental disorders many people didn’t even know really existed or how serious they may be, now with reading Saltz book we not only learn about these disorders we can learn how to recognize them and treat them. There are many different unique ways to heal in your own ways, whether that's a healthy diet and exercise, meditation, yoga, or maybe even art to help relax your mind and release some serotonin to your mind. Saltz's words are really helping people and changing the world, by taking her knowledge and using them to change the world by opening minds about mental health has not only opened many eyes, but has touched many hearts and we are all truly grateful for
