Who was Galileo: Galileo Galilei was a man born on February 15, 1564. He pioneered modern science with his discoveries in physics and how the solar system functions. He was the firstborn of six children born to Vincenzo Galilei, who was a well known musician and musical theorist at the time, and Giulia Ammannati. Galileo started his education in 1583, entering the University of Pisa to study medicine, later becoming fascinated with mathematics and physics and primarily studying those. What did he do: Galileo was most known for designing a modified version of a simple telescope made by Dutch eyeglass makers. He supported the copernican theory after his studies and observations proved the Aristotelian theory and view of the world incorrect. He has also refined theories on motion and developing the law of fall or the law of acceleration. He also proved …show more content…
He started his academic career in 1583 at the University of Pisa. He started in medicine but quickly realised his aptitude for mathematics and physics. He had a few minor teaching positions for a while. Eventually he created the law of acceleration which was his first major discovery. Later in mid 1609 he designed a modified version of a Dutch telescope made by eyeglass makers. For a while these telescopes were created by him for people to use for spotting ships, but then in late 1609, he pointed one to the sky and started observing. In 1610 he made a major discovery that went against the Aristotelian view on the world. He discovered that Venus had phases like the moon, supporting the theory that Venus orbited around the Sun, and he discovered Jupiter had at least four moons that orbited Jupiter itself and not the Earth (at the time it was thought that the Earth was the centre of the universe, so therefore it was thought that everything orbited around it). In 1632 he was summoned to Rome for the inquisition proceedings because he had published a book going against the
