Galileo is one of the greatest and wisest astronomers in history. He provided years of research that showed evidence of new theories and aspects of our galaxy that people never would have imagined in that period of time. There were consequences because his ideas conflicted with those taught and indoctrinated within the church, as his findings went against their religious beliefs. Galileo was even under house arrest for a time because of this. Galileo Galilei was born on February 15, 1564, and died on January 8, 1642. He was born in Pisa, Italy to Vincenzo Galilei and Giulia Ammannati. At the Camaldosa monastery in Vallombosa is where he started his formal education after his family moved to Florence in 1574. He taught at the University of Pisa for three years. This was because his research went against the modern views. Many of his coworkers and students would become angry, since it was seen as a very high offense at that time to create new conclusions that battled with the church. In one experiment it is said that he dropped two same sized and different weighted balls from the top of the Leaning Tower of Pisa. This happened in front of other professors and students and was proof of his theory that they would hit the ground at the same time, yet they still didn 't believe him. Galileo became a professor of mathematics in Padua. During this time his income increased but due to the death of his father, he was expected to take care of the finances for the rest of his family. Here at Padua he was allowed to speak more openly and taught for eighteen years. His lectures focused mainly on geometry, and astronomy. He also continued his work of the movement of objects during this time. Another experiment of his involved a cannonball and its curved adventure to the ground after being shot. In this, he found that 45 degrees would get the cannonball the farthest. The curved arc it made is now known as a
