The Busy Woman
Martin Gansberg describes an incident in his essay “Thirty-Eight Who Saw a Murder Didn’t Call the Police”, in which many people watched a terrific murder for more than half an hour and therefore, no one called the police until the victim was dead. Mainly, the reasons were incoherent as the neighbors were tired or do not know what to do. Eventually, people do not often help when someone is in trouble, they give illogical excuses to be unable to help; there is not a solid excuse that justifies people for not helping. Following this, I witnessed an act in which my aunt, Karla, did not help someone who was running out of battery since she was busy and late for work. We always left the house at 7:30, Karla supposed to be at work at 8:00, and it would take only 15 minutes to arrive. Not long ago, one cold and snow day, Karla and I just left the home, and like always Karla turn on the car and a cigar, but that day an unexpected action passed, a woman knock at her window. Karla with confidence opened the window and she asked “What happen?” without even said Good Morning or at least hello. The woman was shaking for the cold; which is Karla’s neighbor, and with fear she asked Karla to pass some battery since her car run off and she was not able to take her kids to school. My first though was that Karla was going to help, unfortunately, Karla said, “I am already late for work, and busy”, then Karla apologized for not helping. Furthermore, when I saw the face of the woman, she was angry since she thought that Karla would help her because she had help Karla before in various predicament.
Consequently, Karla did not act to help the woman in trouble because for her was annoyed to pass battery in a snow day which was extremely cold. Similarly, Karla lied about been busy or even late for work, actually, we had enough time to pass battery or take the kids to school. However, people as Karla sometimes do not help because they are egoistic, they do not care about other people. For sure, Karla would like if one day she needs help, her neighbor would
