On a cool day in Salt Lake City Utah, Gary "Green River Killer" Ridgway was born. July 7th 1982 was a day that would start the change of history in forensic science, this was the day waitress Amina Agisheff would leave for work and never be found alive again. This event started a killing spree that stretched potentially 19 grueling years. The very next day Ridgway kills Wendy Coffield a runaway teen. About one month later Debra Estes reported a man in a blue and white pickup truck who offered the girl a lift but then brandished a pistol and forced her to pleasure him sexually.
On February 11, 1987, Peggy Hettrick’s body was found in a field in Fort Collins, Colorado. Hettrick’s body was located near the Prime Minister Pub and Grill which was the last place Hettrick was spotted alive at approximately 1:30 in the morning (Possley, 2016). When police found Peggy Hettrick’s body she had been stabbed in the back and sexually mutilated. Eye witnesses reported that Hetterick left the pub after allegedly witnessing her boyfriend with another female.
When found, her body was unrecognisable according to the Police Officer in charge of the investigation, Inspector Wayne King. Within three days (Thursday 26) of the body being discovered,
Police were having such a hard time solving this investigation and were so desperate for a break that they looked for help from a well known nationwide criminologist to help look into the investigation. The public was calling in tips continuously, yet many of them were false tips. What would soon be considered to be the last of the co-ed killings occurred on July 23rd, 1969, where an 18 year old girl named Karen Beinemen’s body was found. Beinemen was found strangled and nude, her face was beaten terribly. She was last seen by a store clerk where she was purchasing a wig from, where she mentioned how she was getting a ride with a stranger on a motorcycle.
His next murder occurred on or before July 14, 2004, only six months after being released on parole. The dates of kidnapping and death aren’t known for sure. Anna Ewing was the victim and she died of strangulation by her own clothes and a broken neck. On the second of September, the bodies of Patricia Wilson Butler and Sheliah McKinzie were found under a tarp in an abandoned garage. Sheliah McKinzie had remnants of semen in her vagina and rectum, indications of rape.
The bodies were decomposing, leaving many being unable to be unidentified. The bodies found in the river were soon linked to the Gacy case due to the similarity of items being stuffed in the mouths of the victims, and most of the driver’s licenses were in a box in the Gacy house. As the final body was found underneath the recreational room, the home cemetery was soon destroyed. The young boy who began this investigation, Robert Piest’s corpse was found downstream at Dresden Dam.

It was the 24th of April, when Mindy and Thalia Montgomery had first been reported missing, by the frantic mother of the two girls. East Tilda had participated in the largest man hunt the town had experienced since 1987 (when young Eric Batters had gone missing, only to be found three days later hiding in a secret room in his basement, because his parents hadn't allowed him to go the local arcade), every abled body was on the lookout, all with the same goal; to find the two girls. This search, however, did not end with the same relief as the search for Eric Batters had done. The two girls had been found two days later by the local police force, dead, at the waters edge of Amber Lagoon, more commonly known as the infamous Dead Man's Pool; a popular destination for the youth of East Tilda. Their bodies were found lying in the large reeds at the waters edge, their necks at unnatural angles and their glassy eyes unblinking.
A trait simply described as the overestimation of oneself can be a quintessential element in understanding a character’s downfall. People such as Chris McCandless, Oedipus and Tiger Woods are key examples when trying to relate, understand, and analyze what we know today as “Hubris”. The connections that can be made between each of these characters describe the very nature of how a hero will ultimately meet their bane as a result of being blinded by their own flaws. Evidence shows that Simmons also bludgeoned and shot his visiting son. Simmons then proceeded to strangle his three year old granddaughter and later evidence shows that the three bodies were found in a pit dug by the other children. Later that same day the school bus dropped off the remaining Simmons kids at the house for Christmas break. Evidence proves that the remaining children were murdered individually either by strangulation/ and or drowning in a rain barrel, their bodies were found in the same place the other three were found in…. The very first murder he was linked to would have been the first one he would of committed. This murder took place in Santa Barbara on June 4th, 1963. The young victims were couple Robert Domingos and his betrothed Linda Edwards. The couple had decided to participate in their senior ditch day, so they went sunbathing at a beach near Gaviota State Park. When they didn’t return by the next morning, Robert’s father went looking for them.
Ted Bundy was a notorious serial murderer who’s reign of terror lasted from 1974 to 1978. Bundy was convicted of three homicides and was sentenced to death for all three charges. However, at the time of his execution, Bundy confessed to 30 murders however the exact number of victims is still unknown. Bundy’s crimes evolved over time but he was both a sexual sadist and a necrophiliac serial killer. At the beginning of his rampage, Bundy would sneak into the victims house in the middle of the night, violently attack them while they were sleeping with a blunt object and then Bundy would usually sexually assault them.
Before Ronald Dominique was labeled as a serial killer, he had been in trouble with the law. His charges consisted of forcible rape, telephone harassment, and disturbing the peace. When Ronald Dominique went jail on these accounts, he was tied up and brutally raped. Researcher believed that the way Ronald was raped in jail created the method he would use on his victims.
In this paper I will be applying the psychological theories to serial killer Ed Gein. Ed Gein was a prolific serial killer in the 1950’s. He murdered and robbed graves for body parts to make furniture and clothing. He was apprehended in 1957, where he stood trial and was institutionalized. Edward Theodore “Ed” Gein was born August 27th, 1906 to George and Augusta Gein.
