As Jojo and Kayla are about to leave Parchman after picking up Michael, Pop’s dead friend, Richie, suddenly appears and sits in the car with them. He is determined to find out how he died because Pop’s story was “a moth-eaten shirt, nibbled to threads: the shape is right, but the details have been erased” (137). Again and again, Jojo refuses to give Richie what he wants until he finally gives in and asks Pop for a truthful ending to Richie’s story. When the story is completed, Jojo looks over at Richie: “At first I think he is singing again, but then I realize it is a whine that rises to a yell that rises to a scream, and the look on his face is horror at what he sees” (256). Pop was attempting to protect Richie by suppressing the truth because he believed Richie would react badly if he found out how he died.

Set and Carter then intelligently concurred that if Apophis rose, he would help them so the world would not pulverize.
Throughout the text, Red, White, & Black: The Peoples of Early North America, the author, Gary Nash addresses not only the history of the United States, but also the history of North America as a whole. As the title suggests the three groups of people are different races; it represents Native Americans, Europeans, and Africans. Although the title may not be considered politically correct due to the referral of Africans as blacks, Native Americans as red, and Europeans as white, it reveals the ignorance and also inability for the different races to communicate with each
In Larry Sabato’s book “A more Perfect Consitution” he raises up 23 possible amendments to the constitution in order to create a more perfect United States of America. Whilst many of Sabato’s suggestions are great and deserve reflection and study, his 12th suggestion; “Allow men and women not born in the U.S. to run for President or Vice President after having been a citizen for 20 years”, is by far the more pressing and important issue. Throughout the course of this paper I will uncover the original intent of the Natural-born Citizen Clause, the opinions of opponents and proponents of the idea, and the history of laws proposed in order to create such an amendment. “It’s funny how one little thing can change your perspective on everything.” For young Gary Soto, that one thing was a guacamole-colored jacket. In the memoir, “The Jacket,” author Gary Soto conveys the message of his insecurity, his poverty, and his ultimate self destruction through the use of figurative language. Soto’s clever use of personification, metaphors, and similes clearly illustrates the message that the way you dress influences how you feel about yourself. To emphasize, Gary Soto uses descriptive language to reveal his secret insecurity about his jacket.
First, the symbolism in "The Jacket" supports the overarching theme that the clothes one wears, affect how a person feels. In fact, the main character even tries to get rid of the jacket, throwing it over the fence to the alley.
