CRITICAL REVIEW OF THE APPLICATION OF GAS CHROMATOGRAPHY MASS SPECTROMETRY IN PESTICIDE ANALYSIS FROM BODY FLUIDS.
Introduction
Gas chromatography mass spectrometry (GCMS) is the most suitable technique for the diagnosis of disorders of organic acid metabolism, known as organic acidurias. In other words organic acidurias are also commonly known as insecticide, pesticides, herbicides and fungicides. The first applications analysis of GCMS began in the early 1990s. The process of application of GCMS is used in various laboratories, quantitative and qualitative procedures for complex mixture analysis of body fluids and determination of a variety of chemically diverse metabolites in urine. Body fluids like urine, blood, and gastric contents

Pesticides analysis are important for an investigation in which a foul play is suspected and to determine accidental deaths and suicides. The method to analysis of biological material for the presence of drugs urine is the most useful material that is available. Analyst does not face the problems during the analysis by performing examination with urine as a body fluid for the investigation. As it is protein free it has unchanged substance. Only unchanged substances will be encountered, and the analysis will not be complicated by the presence of numerous and sometimes unknown metabolites (Mishra, Shukla & Gupta, …show more content…
The pesticides studied, which have appeared frequently in actual cases, were endosulfan, lindane, parathion, ethyl-azinphos, diazinon, Malathion, alachlor, tetradifon, fenthion. These study widely reviewed the concern of exposure to pesticides with analytical methods for biological monitoring. All phases of analytical procedures were assessed which included storage, sample preparation, analysis, and validation of methods. The study was main aimed at measuring metabolites or unchanged compounds in urine or blood as biological indicators of exposure. Biological indicators of effect like cholinesterase were evaluated as these compounds are easily decomposed at the GCMS injection port. The temperature programmable inlet on-column injection was used for the procedure. Combination of the two method a new sensitive analytical method was established without hydrolysis and thermal decomposition. Gas Chromatography Mass Spectrometry and Gas Chromatography tandem Mass Spectrometry are the recent emerging trends in the simultaneous analysis. Besides all the techniques reported so far there is a need to develop other economical techniques with the better sensitivity and finest resolution in order to provide speedy determination of pesticides in the body
