John Krakauer wrote the Devils Thumb as a story but with bits of flashback to add depth to the story. The authors separate each of these into their own chapter for a certain reason, to show the treatment of colonized people. This was formed from years of social views and gender representations in film. Women were often thought of as people who had small roles to play in life and a desire to there working class of men. The males were given heroic and superior roles, usually seen saving the day or doing what it took to support a family as seen in The Searchers where the men had to protect the family in search for their loved ones after the Indians raided the family’s home. In the movie cowboys vs aliens we also had a similar situation where the males had to leave home in search for their enemy. Males are still seen in this way in featured films and females still desired over men with their feminine aspects.
This thesis project will use Elizabeth Comack’s racialized policing theory as the main guiding theoretical framework. Comack argues that racialization occurs when certain views of a minority are normalized, which can lead to racist attitudes towards those minority groups (Comack, 2012). Certain views about Sikhs are racialized by the majority. According to a variety of literature towards the Sikh diaspora, Sikhs are racialized as terrorist, dangerous, and a feared body, based on views given by the media. Potter and Kappeler’s have argued that the media racializes minorities as dangerous (Potter & Kappeler, 2012).
Another popularly stigmatized issue within the Chicanx community is the issue of gang injunctions. In Ana Muniz’s book, Police, Power, and the Production of Racial Boundaries, she highlights the injustices against the Chicano community done by their fellow neighbors and the community police because their culture is often a nuisance to other residents. Muniz uses the city Cadillac-Corning as her prime example to look at the gang injunction model. Society has getting better with trying not to stereotype women, but after studying the movie Clueless, the stereotypes that were shown in the movie still exist today. For many years women have been told that they have to fit a certain image for our society’s needs. From a woman’s perspective, there are many expectations that are held and are impossible to be met. In the midst of police brutality controversy, a new video went viral on social media showing a South Carolina deputy Ben Fields, violently throwing a high school from her desk in a classroom. “Give me your hands” fields repeated to the silent girl after pinning her to the ground. Notably, Over the years, a lack of diversity within law enforcement has become a pertinent issue. Notably, the underrepresentation of minorities within law enforcement influences the relationship between communities and law enforcement by engendering distrust with law enforcement. To say nothing of, underrepresentation of minorities have had many people question whether departments mirror a diverse community. Nevertheless, with that being said, underrepresentation of minorities have generated tension and distrust between communities and law enforcement and many believe that police department need to mirror the race composition within their cities.
For many of years, many researchers and the justice system have seen a big increase in women being incarcerated. As stated in the article "Should the Criminal Justice System Treat female Offender Differently," by Jill L. Rosenbaum many of the offenses by women are less violent and most likely be “status offense. ”As we notice the increase in women and a decrease in men, we wonder if there a psychological reason for this discovery. Should women be treated differently?

Feminist theory shows the ways of a gender structured life . This culture is also displayed in Crime and Punishment by Sonya and Dunya. Feminist criticism is a type of literary criticism that was well known in the 1970’s. Women would begin taking apart the classics and analyzing how the author portrayed women. The women in Crime and Punishment , especially Sonya and Dunya have a stronger state of mind and are able to handle the pressures and struggles of life better than the men in the novel.
There are many indicators of the huge impact in disparities in sentencing women as compared to men and more so when it revolves around minorities ( race and class). Though there are lower crime rates among women as compared to men, there are significant disparities which tend to show favouritism to women. Research has shown that men get 63 per cent longer custodial sentences than women. In addition, it is twice more likely to have women get non custodial sentences even after conviction. However, as mentioned the disparities are more profound when issues of race and class are intertwined in the sentencing.
