“There is no limit to what we, as women, can accomplish, whether that’s in politics or other fields.” –Michelle Obama. Anyone of any gender can accomplish anything, but certain groups may not be able to due to the discrimination they go through trying to accomplish something based on their gender. Women are portrayed as weak, that they should stay inside, work around the house, and look pretty. In the movie, A League of their Own, a man says, “Why can’t you be pretty like your sister?” The two sisters were playing baseball; how does beauty affect how well they played? It does not affect how they well played at all. Later on in the movie once their team was formed and they began their first official baseball game, their coach, Jimmy Dugan said, “I don’t have ball players I’ve got girls!” It should not matter what gender one is to play a sport; the only …show more content…

In the article, Boys ' Perceptions of the Male Role: Understanding Gender Role Conflict in Adolescent Males by Randolph Watts and DiAnne Borders it said, “Many boys said that it was inappropriate to express emotions that they felt because that came across as not masculine or "unmanly.” Where do boys learn that it is unmanly to express their feelings? They learn it from older generations. Boys should not have to follow a certain image created by other people to be accepted. On page 118 of To Kill a Mockingbird by Harper Lee, Scout compares Atticus to other fathers in Maycomb, “He did not do things our schoolmates fathers did; he never went hunting, he did not play poker or fish or drink or smoke.” Scout sounds disappointed that Atticus is not like other fathers. The way that other adult males portray themselves to young children is negatively influencing the younger boys.
