Male are thought to be adventurous, aggressive, strong whereas females are to be affectionate, attractive, shy and sexy. While I highly identify with my feminine gender characteristics, at times l possess masculine characteristics like confidence, ambition, and sometimes aggression.
Chapter 11: Gender roles are explained to be the expectations regarding the proper behavior, attitudes, and activities of male to female. Men are typically put as the head of the house . . . bring the bacon home kind of situation. The women are to do the housework, cook, have and raise children, and maybe even expected to hold a job. There is an unrealistic amount of work placed over women’s head, but that could just be because I am a woman.
Burak defines gender socialization as “the process of interaction through which we learn the gender norms of our culture and acquire a sense of ourselves as feminine, masculine, or even androgynous” (Burack, 1). According to Burack, people of different genders behave differently not due to biological factors, but due to socialization that teaches individuals to behave in a particular way in order to belong to a certain gender. For example, women may tend to be nurturing, not because they are biologically programed to be caretakers, but as a result of society teaching them through toys and media to act as mothers. I remembered when I was young, there were plenty of movie that has girls play dolls and boys play football. These movies were popular among children that day until now, girls were meant to be soft and boys were meant to be powerful and strong. Then one day, I’ve watched a movie that has a girl play in the football team and I were surprised because it’s the first time that I’ve seen a movie that shows girl can be both femininity and masculinity. This movie has a huge impact on young children behaviour and has influenced children in constructing gender roles in the society. ‘Little Giants’ has shown the characteristic of the main character to be abnormal and changing the gender stereotypes in young audiences’ perspective.

My Questions: Why are women portrayed the way they are in the bible of other sacred texts? How did gender roles form?
During the Progressive Era, many women displayed a deceitful facade when interacting amongst society. They remain respectful and dutiful to their husbands in public, as vowed through their commitment in marriage. Deep down, however, ideas of revenge towards their husbands dominated this facade. Authors Kate Chopin and Susan Glaspell produce several works throughout this era that justifyingly portray the strain between women and their male counterparts in relation to marriage and divorce. Both authors express the way gender roles were set during the Progressive Era, specifically by writing “Story of an Hour” and “Jury of Her Peers” to illustrate the freedom women wanted to achieve apart from their husbands, which reflects these individual’s morals, psychological and social awareness of self identity.
So what happened? Why did neither of these two women get elected? Hillary Clinton, who early in the race was the Democratic hopeful, and was neck and neck with Obama in the poles. In social psychology, we talked a lot about gender roles. At a young age, you are exposed to them regardless if you know it or not.. Starting at a young age, these children learned what they were supposed to be like. Little girls are dressed in pink dresses and bows, while boys are dressed in blue jeans and a t-shirt. Baby girls are talked to in calm, soft voices and told how precious and beautiful they look, while baby boys are told how tough and strong they look in louder aggressive voices.
From the moment of my birth, I was declared a girl and my parents immediately attempted to raise me to be every aspect of my gender, from behavior to beliefs. In sociology, this is known as gender role socialization, which is the process of socializing boys and girls to conform to their assigned genders’ attitudes, beliefs, behaviors, values, and norms. My parents taught me how think and behave like a girl through the way the way they dressed me, how they did my hair, and the toys they allowed me to play with. However, having been raised with a brother, I also picked up on some of his supposed gender roles. I am exactly who I am due to the way I was socialized by my parents and others around me.

Children and young adults are identifying with gender roles at a young age due to mass media. Children develop within a society that is gender-specific when it comes to social and behavioral norms. These come from the family’s structure, how they play with others and by themselves, and school. Even in adulthood, one might find it difficult to live according to how they want and rather face the problem of having to conform to gender norms in place. It is for this reason that Spade calls out to trans politics institutions and organizations to extensively look for better ways of ensuring these individuals are properly treated from early on in life and be allowed to live according to how they want and not according to how laws and norms require. According to Spade, more focus should be put on institutionalized norms because these norms do not represent the atrocities of intersex people nor do they legally recognize
Although gender roles have changed over time, where males and females have become more equivalent , a certain level of behaviors and tasks which are acceptable for men and women still exist today. Alternatively of women and men steadily playing the gender roles they always play, they should change it around and try to do something divergent when being defined in a category of gender roles. However, women are becoming equal to men in our generation. For instance , would be men can take supervision of the children when the women go to work. Women are more maverick that they don’t need to depend on a man.

This text includes the study of gender development, sex roles and trends over the past 35 years. Today gender roles, especially in the United States, are different from what they were in the past. But there are still many differences in roles of sex in many places around the world where women are considered less than men. They are not allowed to go out without a man going along.
For that reason, I found comfort in something so simple, yet so loud and grand in terms of expressiveness. Looking up to my mother for inspiration when I was a kid, it was a more classic and conservative look I tended to follow. For instance, I would go into her closet and try on her Ferragamo heels that were a tad too big on me, or her set of pearl necklaces that made me feel like a fancy woman attending a tea party. Those first memories of playing with fashion left my mark on me wanting to discover more of that world. As I grew up, my more rebellious side started to show; I always wanted to dress up in an outrageous way, dyed my hair to show that as I was as free as the strands on my head flowing in bustling winds.
