Gender Stereotypes In Cowboys

133 Words1 Pages
The effect of gender stereotypes has misconstrued our history books. The idea that cowboys in the wild west are to be a rugged man is wrong. A cowboy may have the appearance of a cold statue, but on the inside a caring person is cloaked by stereotypes of today. “If a rancher or cowboy has been thought of as a ‘man’s’ man, --laconic, hard-drinking, inscrutable – there’s almost no balancing act between male and female, manliness and femininity, can be more natural. If he’s ruff and handsome, and physically fit on the outside, he’s androgynous at the core.” (4). The idea that men need to be buff, fit, and indestructible to be a man is flawed. Men do not need be these to be classified as a man. Gender has no distinctive look.
