The Future COULD be Now Through genetic engineering, scientist have cured many diseases and the possibilities are still endless. Current day genetic engineering is very advanced and this does more good for society than bad. The basic ideas of genetic engineering have clearly more pros than cons. With the overwhelming amount of pros compared to cons, one would think that most people would be accepting of genetically changing individuals. However that has never been the case. In current society, the extreme advancements of genetic engineering is halted by ethicalness of the subject. We have modern organizations created to prevent the specific expansion of genetic engineering due to the ethics. Most engineering is based around problem solving and genetic engineering is no different. However, unlike other …show more content…

Aldous Huxley, in Brave New World, believes that genetic engineering opens the door for perfect happiness and control. Comparison between our world now and the world created by Huxley. Predictions for the (near) future and how genetic engineering will be used. We, now, do not allow complete genetic engineering because that seems unethical. “Today scientists can "synthesize" a small genome to create a virus. Soon they will move to larger genomes, and eventually to bacteria and possibly even to new genomes for larger animals and plants. It is conceivable that human beings will some day contain artificially synthesized chromosomes in their cells. Synthetic genomics may one day be one of the key spin-offs of the genomic revolution. ” (Caplan). Humans presently are setting boundaries on topics like these to avoid problems in the future. We are delicately placing our limits where we think that they should go for now. The world must be extremely careful for what we allow for our future. Human are no longer naturally born but are created and manipulated in rows and rows of test
