Adaptability is one key feature that humans have throughout their lives that separates us from other animals. Many people have a hard time adapting to certain situations without any aids so the introduction of newer technologies gives more people the ability to adapt to different situations at hand. Cathy Davidson brings this up in her essay, “Project Classroom Makeover” where she talks about the implementation of technology in the classroom and the power that computers have on the development of individuals. She also discusses mainly how technology has advanced with her program showing how technologies can be applied in different ways. Daniel Gilbert furthers the points about how people can adapt to different situations in his essay “Immune to Reality.”
The Holocaust and the Cambodian Genocide were two major events in history that caused millions of innocent people and even children to die. Although the actions that occurred during the Holocaust differ from those that occurred during the Cambodian Genocide, they happen to have many similarities. Since October 24th, 1945, the United Nations had the intention “to engage diplomatically as armed conflict is absolutely unacceptable” . Even though the United Nations stated this, genocides still continued to occur. This is seen in the cartoon, by the hundreds of skeleton heads with graves above the skeletons which is implying that the United Nations did not succeed in their goal (cartoon).
In 1944, a Polish-Jewish lawyer came up with the word, “genocide.” However, even seventy-five years later, many people still debate what factors go into making a genocide. Of course, there is mass murder, mistreatment of large groups of people, and difficult life conditions. Take the Cambodian Genocide, for example. People were tortured and killed so much during this genocide that at one of the death camps, “as few as 12 managed to survive” (Pierpaoli).
LThe Cambodian Genocide was a ghastly event that ruined many people's life and 7 million people lost their lives. The Cambodian Genocide happened under the Khmer rouge regime due to their lack of respect of people, isolation, and social engineering. 40% of deaths during the khmer rouge regime was caused by starvation and diseases (Jarvis, pg1). This was inhumane. All the food that was farmed and supposed to go to the people in cambodia was all for china so that the Khmer Rouge could earn profit.

First cases of genocide had such reasons as territorial, competing and religious arguments. The Cambodian genocide started when the Khmer Rouge attempted to nationalize and centralize the peasant farming society of Cambodia (Quinn 63).
The bombs dropped on Hiroshima and Nagasaki annihilated one fourth of a million Japanese people, the majority of whom were civilians. This horrifying and deplorable idea in history should have never crossed Harry Truman’s frontal lobe. Even though these were desperate times, these perverted and twisted actions are not justified by the circumstances. The atomic bombs dropped on Hiroshima and Nagasaki were detestable and odious for reasons such as Japan was already compliant to a conditional surrender, the extinguishing of about 250,000 Japanese lives, and that one bomb was enough. One reason for why this was a heinous act is that it was unneeded.
Genocides are the worst possible thing that mankind can do. Yet many genocides are just swept under the rug and forgotten about. Thats why it is important to be educated on them so we can try to prevent Genocides from reoccurring. The Cambodian genocide was one of the worst ever.
