George Edward Forman was born on January 10, 1949, in Marshall Texas. In his early years George had a tough life that took him down many bad paths. But with strength he overcame these challenges and rose to stardom as a professional boxer and heavy weight champion. He also has become a very successful businessman and minister. Michael Boehm of Batavia, IL created the concept for the grill after he was asked to create a follow up product to the sandwich maker. The original intent for the grill was to drain the fat out of hamburgers into a separate reservoir. It also uses duel-heating surfaces on either of its sides to eliminate the need for flipping and an angled bottom plate to allow for the melted fat to move through the groves. The concept of the grill was pitched to nine different companies with George as their spokesperson. George was chosen for the part because he was well known for eating two reduced fat hamburgers before every fight, which made him a perfect candidate for the product. Boehm sent a prototype of the grill along with a cookbook to Foreman who at first did not want to try it but after his wife made him a burger on it he fell in love. The Success of the item can be shared equally between the unique features of the grill and of George’s enthusiasm for the product. This was proven in the one hundred million grills already sold.
