Many people see George H.W. Bush as some man that was the president. George Bush was more than that, all he ever wanted to do was help the people throughout his term as president. Becoming vice president and president of the United States takes a lot of time and dedication and that’s exactly what he did, he stuck with it, but he also didn’t allow anybody to change his mind as to what he wanted to do when he grew up.
George’s mother had the hardest time trying to figure out what to name her first born. As time went on she finally decided to go with George Herbert Walker Bush, which was her father in law 's full name. “George wasn’t only named after his grandfather, but he inherited his nickname “pop” (Green, 2000, p.19). Bush went to both an academy and a college. Graduated from Greenwich Country Day School. Was a student leader at Phillips Academy in Andover in 1940 (Fradel,2006). Went to Yale University after he was done with the War (“George H.W. Bush Biography”, n.d.). Graduated with a degree in economics in 1949 (“George H.W. Bush Biography”, n.d.). He excelled in his studies and also was a member of Phi Beta Kappa (Freidel, 2006).
George Bush and Barbara have lived a long and happy marriage. They have been married for 70 years. George and Barbara met each other at a Christmas dance when he was 17 and she 16 (“George H.W. Bush Biography”, n.d.). They got married in January 1945. They have six children, but one of the died in 1953 (“George H.W. Bush Biography”. n.d.).
Right when he turned 18 he enlisted in the U.S. Navy. Being the youngest pilot in 1943 in the Navy during World War 2. Flying carrier-based torpedo bomber aircrafts (“George H.W. Bush Biography”, n.d.). One mission over the Pacific as a torpedo bomber pilot he was shot down by Japanese aircrafts (Freidel, 2006). Bush was the 41st president in 1989. He brought to the White House a dedication to traditional American values and determination (Freidel, 2006). In 1980 he campaigned for the Republican nomination for President and lost. Instead, he became the Vice President for Ronald Reagan. He was the first Vice President to be elected President since 1837 (“George H.W.Bush Biography”, n.d.).
George H.W. Bush still helps put even after his term as President. He lent his support to several political causes (“George H.W. Bush Biography”, n.d.). He joined forces with Bill Clinton to help people affected by Hurricane Katrina (“George H.W. Bush Biography”, n.d.). The Bush Clinton fundraiser was made and they got $100 million in donations in the first few months (“George H.W. Bush Biography” , n.d.). He was honored with the presidential Medal of Freedom by President Barack Obama (“George H.W. Bush Biography”, n.d.).
Bush became very supportive of his son George W. Bush during his election of presidency in 2000. Bush Sr. made many public appearances, a lot to speak of his son (“George H.W. Bush Biography”, n.d.).
