Are we being misled like the proles in 1984? The way information is received plays a huge role in people's everyday lives. In the novel “Nineteen Eighty-Four “by George Orwell, the people of Oceania are being misled by the government because of the way the government distribute information. Like in the novel, in the country North Korea the government also controls the way information is distributed. When government controls everything that people rely on for information it becomes difficult to know what is true and what is not. Media, propaganda and history books can be a way to manipulate people.
The media is a powerful tool for manipulation; both because the public is widely exposed to it and the public trusts it. The party used this as a powerful weapon against citizens. One of it was ‘the two minutes hate’; “The horrible thing about the Two Minutes Hate was not that one was obliged to act a part, but that it was impossible to avoid joining in." The whole purpose of this propaganda was so the people of Oceania let all their anger out to an enemy figure that was against Big Brother. The party used this as a way of citizens to get all their hatred that they felt towards the government. Whereas, in North Korea the government does not use a person but a whole country. Children are taught to hate America as early as kindergarten.
