Have you ever read the novel 1984 by George Orwell and by the end of it had a few unanswered questions about the message and purpose of the book. In this response we will go over the contents of the book and decipher just what exactly Orwell was heading us about. To start off, while you read 1984 you see that it is an imagined reality of a society that draws inspiration from nations that were around while Orwell was alive. We’re dropped into a modernized version of twentieth century london. In this world the government also know as The Party, is in control of all aspects of life. Citizens are under constant surveillance by devices called telescreens that are in the majority of homes. People live in fear of the secret police of the nation named Though Police, that will arrest you for thoughts against the government. It is obvious to see what exactly he took from and referenced in his book. We can see similarities to the actions of Nazi Germany. The leader at this time was Adolf Hitler and Orwell took a few of his ideas and put it into his book. Hitler needed a organization to keep his newly conquered territory in order so the Gestapo was created. This was hitler's secret police, people knew they existed but who they were was a nebulous to all. We can also see how Hitler created a scapegoat for his people, blaming the jewish people for the germans hardships leaving few sanctuaries to flee to. Orwell translated this into his book by creating Emmanuel Goldstein, a figure that the government made the people accumulate hatred for him. Finally we can see how hitler tried to keep is people as ignorant as possible to be able to keep them under control a lot easier. We see this in the proles in the book, the government finds them so ignorant that they don't bother putting telescreens where they
