Georgia O’Keeffe was born in 1887 in rural Wisconsin, and by the young age of 10 decided she wanted to be an artist. She was taught by a local watercolorist named Sara Mann in her younger years, and went on to attend the School of the Art Institute of Chicago from 1905 to 1906. In 1908 O’Keeffee stopped painting for 4 years because she disliked the more traditionalist style of painting she had been taught. She was inspired to paint again by Arthur Wesley Dow who taught a less traditional style. Her art progressed from this point, and she had her first solo exhibit in 1917.
Georgia O 'Keeffe was a spectacular painter in the American Modernist Painting Movement who painted many scenes in nature and many landscapes of cities in New York and deserts in New Mexico. Although she did not consider herself as a part of any movement, she was part of The American Modernist Painting movement. She loved nature so she chose to paint different varieties of flowers. O’Keeffe is especially remembered for her paintings of flowers and bones. She was unique in the way she painted, and her paintings of nature continue to inspire people all around the world.
Georgia O’Keefe was born on November 15, 1887 in Sun Prairie, Wisconsin and died March 6, 1986 in Santé Fe, New Mexico. She was an American modernist who loved paintings flowers and landscapes from New Mexico. Georgina had 6 other siblings and her mother and father, all living on a farm in Madison, Wisconsin. She attended the Sacred Heart academy, when she graduated in 1904 she studied at the Art Institute of Chicago. She became a commercial artist but then became interested in Oriental designs.
Before today, I didn’t know much about Georgia O’Keeffe and I wasn’t familiar with any of her paintings. After reading through the section, I realized how much I admired this artist that I’d just learned about and how undervalued her art was, or maybe how little she’s spoken of nowadays, compared to other artists. Her landscape paintings all contain a very distinct look to them that make them seem very original. The fact that she makes a place like New Mexico seem like it’s got breathtaking scenery, when in reality it’s mostly rugged and dry looking, is astonishing to me.
Art is a form of expressing the inner feelings, emotions, and imaginations. Artists such as James McDougal Hart and Mattie Luo O’Kelley delivered strong messages and relived memories of the past through their artworks. Mattie O’Kelley is an American, folk artist who painted the Yardsale in 1979. Much like her other works, it portrays a busy country scene from her early life in rural Georgia. James McDougal Hart is another landscape artist and a Scottish-born American cattle painter.
This is my favorite piece from her because I love the colors and the up close details of the flower. I love what Georgia says about wanting to paint what she sees. I feel when I look at this I am seeing what O’Keeffe was looking at and feeling at the time she was painting this. The meaning of this was to get people to slow down and look at things. I feel that people need to do that with art or just in everyday life.

The hippie movement is arguably one of the most famous culture movements from the twentieth century, made widely famous in pop-culture involving romanticized images of overly friendly people clothed in bell-bottom pants and flower-print button down shirts. While reading “The Trouble with (the Term) Art,” written by Carolyn Dean in the summer of 2006, we are taken through an array of different scenarios that lead us to questions what art really is. Dean explores the idea that the word “art” is used far too often and too habitually, and that as we study the non-Western cultures we need to use much more discretion regarding what we call the different pieces of their culture. Throughout the essay, Dean supports her thesis that we too often categorize non-Western pieces as art by using different examples of how certain non-art pieces were deemed as art throughout the course of their history. Dean does this by using four key examples of how these ancient pieces are inappropriately called art to successfully support her thesis and avoid biases.
Visual Analysis In 1948, one of America’s greatest artist of the 20th century, Andrew Wyeth illustrated the painting Christina’s World. This artist often created paintings that related to personal or general real life issues. The young woman in the painting happened to be a good friend and neighbor to Wyeth. His paintings often depicted the sorrow and despair of life, just like Chirstina’s.
Generally, There has been a study conducted by proving that squatter housing is better known as homelessness with 40 percent of homeless people living in squatter houses. Most homeless people solve their places problem by trying out other areas to stay temporarily before moving to another place but then there are those who have adapted to the area before turning it to squatting. Art is way of expression. People can use actions and art or express themselves in ways other than speaking. In the book Speak, by Laurie Halse Anderson, symbolism holds a big significance. The trees mentioned throughout the book symbolize Melinda’s changing “seasons” (her “growing” as a person). People, like trees, go through phases, they freeze in the winter, becoming nothing but lonely limbs without leaves covered with white slush.
Artwork is all around the world, but is it really worth the resources and time for it? In the essay “Is Art a Waste of Time?” by Ryhs Southan he discusses the purpose of art and explains the group, Effective Altruism. The main argument is that Effective Altruism do not agree with using resources and time on artwork. Effective Altruism is against artwork the resources, and time it uses up that do not contribute to the poor.
Frida Kahlo created many glorious pieces. One of her most intriguing pieces is The Two Fridas. The image is quite symbolic and meaningful. Kahlo was a Mexican artist greatly known for her self portraits and the pain, passion and feminism of her paintings.
